On numerous occasions, I’ve been told life is a collection of very important moments. So as an active duty navy police officer, I’d like to talk about one of the very important moments in my life. The very first day at the Victory Riding Academy, dba; Strides to Victory, location, I was honestly confused as I expected this ranch to be like any other. I found this establishment on a list of volunteer opportunities within an email that my base commander had sent out. You can buy tickets and take a horse ride in any number of locations, but what you can’t find there is an experience of family, love, wisdom, and peace. VRA, dba; Strides to Victory, is a location that offers time spent with horses who are hand-picked by two of the most wise and caring individuals in Omaha, two people who are genuinely interested in helping those who ask. These horses are hand picked to deliver an experience of peace and wisdom, a guaranteed life-changing experience. From the moment you step onto the ranch, you find yourself enveloped in a familial embrace of warmth and care. From the volunteers who take pride in helping you learn and spend time with the horses safely, to the horses themselves, you won’t find a more amazing experience in the equine community. I have spent more days than I could count at that ranch, since I’ve been stationed in Omaha, and every day I leave with a full heart and a settled mind. This place has honestly changed my life, VRA, dba; Strides to Victory, is truly a gift to those of us among the first responder and veteran community, and I will always cherish the time I’ve spent with them
